    How does magnetohydrodynamic propulsion work?
    I understand how one is built and I understand that electromagnetic waves push the water. But I can't understand why it works.

    Even electrostatic field will attract water. Hold rubbed balloon near a water falling from a tap,you will see the water bending instead of falling vertically.
