There is a short somewhere between the wires on the solenoids. You will have to trace it with an ohm meter with unit unplugged.

What drtom said or even a bad switch. The selecter switch send power to either/or/both water fill solenoids. A short could power both or a bad swicth. What happens if you close the hot valve coming to the washer?

What ballengerb1 said is a good point. There is the switch that chooses the water temperature located next to the timer. One hot wire goes in from timer and two wires go out: One to the hot water valve and one to the cold water valve. If there is a short in that switch it would send power to both valves when water is called for. You can find where the wires going to the valves plug onto the switch and using an ohm meter see if there is a short: Put the switch on "Cold" and if the two terminals read around zero on ohms then the switch is shorted and you need a new one. If you read around zero when checking between the two wires you unplugged then the short is somewhere else between that point and where they plug into the valves. My money would be on the water temp switch.

Limited cold water coming into washing machine [ 3 Answers ]

Hello, I have a Kenmore 70 Series washing machine. When I turn it on I get plenty of hot water, but only a trickle of cold water. I confirmed this by switching the water temperature selection to cold only. Could this be caused by a faulty inlet valve or is it something else? Thanks!

No hot water coming into washing machine [ 5 Answers ]

We just got a new Bosch 500 series washer -- up until today it has been working fine (for the five days that we have had it!). Today I had an E 02 error message on it. There is no hot water coming into the machine at the tap. We have taken off the hose and no hot water is coming in through the...

No hot water coming into washing machine [ 1 Answers ]

There is only cold water coming into my washing machine. It is a basic Kenmore machine from Sears. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the stainless steel hoses that attach at the faucet and I can feel water being surged through it. And it feels a tad bit warmer than the cold hose does....

Washing machine water coming into laundry tub [ 2 Answers ]

Hi all! I recently got a plumber to install a new laundry tub and faucet. Ever since this was done, when I run the washing machine, the water is coming into the tub up through the drain, then draining out afterwards. This never happened with the old laundry tub. It's a bit annoying because I...

Cold water not coming out in washing machine [ 5 Answers ]

The cold water dribbles into the washing machine when loading; I checked hose connecting machine to faucet in back. The screens were dirty; every time I do load the screens get dirty again. Is stuff coming out of the faucet? It seems to me. What does that mean? The hot water faucet is fine. My...
