    Theft 3 in Oregon first offense
    I got caught shoplifting a book that was valued at 9 dollars. This is my first time ever being arrested or even attempting something like this. It was a momentary lapse in judgement. I have received a citation for the offense with a court date. I am curious what I should expect in court. Should I hire an attorney or request a court appointed one? Is there any way I can make a deal and avoid getting a misdemeanor on my record for years to come.

    Most courts have a first offender program, an attorney can help you though this and I would recommend having one.
