    Locked out by my ex
Can someone please help me. My ex locked me out of our apartment after a 3 day fight. I came home with the locks changed. I am listed as an occupant on the lease and was not given any written notice. All my furniture is in there. I have reciepts for the furniture with only my name on the bill proving the place of delivery also. Do I ask the office for a key? Can I call a locksmith and have them leagally let me in?

Time for a divorce attorney and file suit in court for division of property, most likely they will get some of the funiture and time to move on with your life.

If your on the lease he can not do that --get a cop to escort you in to retrieve your property.

Married or not, if you are on that lease as an occupant, they can not lock you out.
This samething happened to me. I called the cops and they were told you have to let her in . It is her home, too.

He would have to have you evicted.

I wonder if the landlord knows that the locks were changed, or if he changed them himself. When you say you are listed as "an occupant". Are you saying you are a co-tenant - you signed the lease the same as he did? This makes a difference. Either you are on the lease or you are not on the lease. Which is it?

If you are on the lease as a co-tenant, go to the office and find out if they changed the locks. Remind them that you are a tenant, the same as he is, and ask for YOUR key. If they didn't change the locks. Ask them to change the locks. Then he can go and pick up his copy of the key and explain why he changed the lock without permission.
