How to stop a neighbor from harassment / in Michigan?
My best friend has been harassed on a daily basis. It all started when her neighbor was a so-called best friend and helped her out when needed, gave her a job as a escort driver because they hauled houses.

Well, to make a long story short, the neighbor fell for the husband of my friend, so she told my friend he was making advances to her to try to break up the marriage. They knew better, and all of us knew better, so my friend decided to put some distance between her and the neighbor which just made the neighbor mad, so she quit working for them.

We thought that was the end of that... wrong... She called his work and tried to get him fired. She called the building inspector saying they were not getting building permits when doing renovations. She called the insurance company saying they were committing fraud. She's been taking pictures of them out in the yard. She started a brush pile all the way down the property line when they were on the road.

They came home to find someone had gotten into the garage and opened the freezer. Nothing was gone, but it was left open and it was 90 degrees outside and everything was spoiled. They can't prove it, but they know it was her. She has been shooting her dogs with a BB gun. It's just getting way out of hand.

Can someone give them some advice? They live in Michigan, so I don't know the laws there.

Security systems, cameras and prove the illegal activities, and then press criminal charges.

THey need to start calling the cops with EVERY incident, so that they can get a paper trail to support a restraining order. When they call the cops they need to NOT be calm or no one will come out. Make sure they insist on incident reports and keep up with the paper work so that they can prove it when trying to get legal help.

Much of what is being done is not harassment - individually. Collectively it is. I would be very careful not to keep calling the Police because sooner or later they will tell you it's civil, not criminal, and they plain old won't show up.

Document, document, document - the dog shooting IS a crime. Report that. Security cameras are relatively inexpensive. Your friend should buy one, set it up and monitor it.
