    I'm not quite sure what you mean, since there are a lot of other substances that burn as well.

    Even diamond burns to form carbon dioxide.

    Well, maybe you're referring to the organic nitro compounds which burn to form N2, which is on a very low energy level as compared to the initial energy level of the compound, which means that a lot of energy is released in the process
