    Question about heart rate?
Earlier this week I started getting really sick. I had a high fever, an extremely painful and swollen throat, chills and loss of appetite. I went to see a doctor and he diagnosed me with mono. The doctor took my temperature and told me it was 103.8. He then took my pulse and told me it was very strange that my pulse was actually normal even though my temperature was so high. He told me normally when you have a fever your heart rate tends to increase. I was just wondering what some reasons could be for why my heart rate didn't increase?

Was the doctor comparing your heart rate with the fever to your own "normal" heart rate from your medical history, or was that just compared to an average person's heart rate? If the latter, maybe you just normally have a lower heart rate than average. Just a guess.

I hope you feel better soon! Mono is no fun.

He was just comparing it to an average person's heart rate. But I've had my pulse taken before and no one has ever mentioned to me that I have a low heart rate but I don't know. I was just curious. And thanks I am feeling a lot better. :)

I'm a 60 year-old female. When I exercise, I always seem to surpass my target heart rate. If I watch and stay under it, it feels like I'm not really getting a work-out. Can that rate be considered a minimum? My exercise is usually a treadmill or various nautilus machines.
