    Scoliosis treatment
I am 17 years old and have got scoliosis. I don't know how serious it is but I wish to get rid of it. It makes by back hurt if wearing something on my left shoulder (which is a little higher than my right one). Also, my back gets very stiff if I have been standing straight for some time, let's say over an hour.
Please, how to get rid of it?

Have you seen your doctor about this?

Scoliosis is not like a cold, you don't just get rid of it. There are many therapies that are used to prevent the progression of the curvature, but they will not necessarily make it go away.

Some treatments include: braces, casts, exercises, and corrective surgery. But all must be prescribed by your physician.

I would like to add that I am male and I have had scoliosis since I can remember. Plus my ribcage has deformed so some parts of it stay nearer to the lungs. But I have noticed that with strength training I can decreas the deformacy. But still, how to get rid of scoliosis besides from doing stretching exercises/yoga and wathing my posture?

There is no "getting rid of it" only trying to keep it from getting worst.
You need to follow all of your doctors instruction, and yes it will limit some activities.

    Hello Razor2,

You can never get rid of it unfortunately.

Maybe in 20 years the medical community will create a new treatment, but for now, the best they can do is reduce it.

Wearing a brace, physical therapy are some of the common types of methods.

If yours is really bad, they might even consider surgery.

Hopefully they can reduce it a lot so your back doesn't act up all the time.

But I have read stories everywhere where people have decreased the angle of the curvature of the spine. So they have actually decreased their scoliosis. I wish to do that, too, if I cannot get rid of it.

    Razor

P.S. When would an operation be an option? How bad/good should my back be? And would my spine be as flexible after the operation as it is before?

    Razor,

    Re: the operation.

That is a LAST resort. Let me stress that again, it is a LAST resort.

They are putting a metal rod in your back to help adjust you to it.

That only applies if your curve is sooooo bad and nothing else works (like a brace for example)

    Re: decreasing your curve.

Yes, it is possible to decrease it. A brace and physical therapy works well.

A Doctor that specialist in Scoliosis will best be able to assist you. You should consider going and seeing one.

You need to check out The Clear Scoliosis Institute. It is a non-profit foundation, aimed at the successful Non-bracing and Non-surgical correction of Scoliosis.

Here is a video testimony of a girl with 60+ degree cobb, which was reduced to 15 degrees, without surgery or bracing.
