    Puppy walks going bad!
My 9 week old collie/lab mix doesn't like to walk on leash! He is a very active little fella who needs a good walk. He is very happy walking of leash next to me but I really want him to be able to walk on leash too. Does anyone have any walking tips?

He's just a baby. Give him time. Introduce walking on a leash every day accompanied with lots of treats, toys and positive re-enforcement.

If you get frustrated, end your session with him on a good note and try again in a few hours.

Be patient. He's only 9wks old. Most 9wk old pups don't walk on leashes.

Also, now would be a good time to go to a dog trainer with your potential problems and any questions you may have. Hands on is always better the Reading training tips from a book or online.

You could try a gentle leader or a halty. I have always had best luck with those tools. Also like Lucky mentioned, he is just a babe, you need to be patient, he doesn't understand what the leash is all about yet. When you go to put him on the leash, have a small treat avalible for him, just a few pieces of kibble will do. When he walking nice on the leash, praise. When he starts to turn or try and grab at the leash have him sit, and re-direct his attention to another task. Wait a few seconds with him in the sit position and praise. Start your walk again, praising often while he is doing what is expected. Have the leash out in plain site through out the day. When you notice the dog going up and sniffing the leash, a simple good boy will do. Try putting the leash on him while you are in the home or in the yard as well. Do the same exercise, and he will soon realize the leash means fun times!

    Good luck!
