Asus laptops broken speakers?

My K42f is auto adjusting its mic boost every time I use skype, got trouble fixing the feedback. Until my speakers smells burned and stopped working, unless I put on my headsets. What shall I do? ;(

My HP pavilion laptop has suddenly lost sound. If I plug headphones in I can hear, however the minute I remove the jack there is no sound. I have tried reinstalling drivers but it says that it failed each time. I'm not very techy but if somebody could help I would appreciate it?
