    Pull chain switch
 I was told that I could convert any light fixture to a pull chain light by drilling a hole in the light canopy and connecting a pull chain switch. I did that and got the light to work but it will not turn off with the chain, I have no wall switch. Is this all wrong or have I connected wrong?

I'm sure it's connected wrong. How did you connect it?

The switch has 2 black wires, the light is a headrail light with 4 lights. I have 4 white wires, 4 black wires, I connected by color and connected the switch to the blacks, but then I tried another way and connected one to white and one to black, when the chain was pulled it tripped my breaker.

Yes. You connect the black from the supply to one of the pullchain wires. Connect the other pullchain wire to all four blacks from the light. Connect all the whites together.
