Always check your credit. There are many incidents where there are mistakes on somebodies credit and you have to prove there is a mistake and get it taken off your record. Responsible is the only way to improve your credit scores. Do not keep getting new credit cards, or especially department store cards. IF you have credit cards keep your limits low. Always make your payments on time.

Do not owe too much. The more you owe, the more credit you have. The lower your score will be.

Check all 3 credit reporting agencies once a year to make sure that there are no glitches, credit that doesn't belong to you, late payments, unknown accounts, etc. You can join a credit report monitoring service or go to annualcreditreport.com for free credit reports once a year. I agree, beyond this, you just need to pay your bills on time.

Someone might have asked this question, but there are so many posts that I couldn't go through them all. My question is: How many points does one's credit score go down, after, let's say a bank or a car dealer check the credit to see if you qualify? Thanks in advance.

Credit score change [ 3 Answers ]

Hi, I'm re-building my credit and I can view my credit score online. Last month it was 583, and this month it changed to 579. I have paid all bills in full. Could it be that in the last cycle my balance was just $3 under the credit limit? Thank you!
