How to start a ledger with just the trial balance sheet?

I have been asked to set up a "simple" bookkeeping ledger for a business that is already established. My question is, how do I do this with only the Trial Balance sheet? I don't know what to do with the Beginning Equity Balance and the Retained Earnings.
