Mical milky fermented smell - not paint like, is this the smell of sewage? There was a toilet by the bedroom but we took it out to expand the bedroom, also there is a pipe which we covererd around which aparently is a pipe for sewage. Could this be the problem? The pipes were not blocked properly when they did the renovations?

If the replumb was done with CPVC and PVC, you are probably smelling some of the solvent from the glue and it will go away. Sewer gas/smells are very much like a #2, not very Sweet Chemical! Was the toilet pipe capped? It should be well sealed as well as any other drain pipes.

Nothing sweet about a sewer smell, smells like someone broke wind X10. If there was sewer gas coming out of that pipe it would be gone in a few minutes after it was capped. Sounds like you did more than just remove a toilet so I good with solvent smells or even silcone sealant. Silicone can smell for days and it is sweet, acrid, chemically skell. If its not gone after 3-4 days come back and tell us.
