    Remove cured silicone.
    Hi all

Need to remove silicone from aluminum frame for shower door.

Is there anything out there to break it down? Am trying not to scratch frame finish.

    Thanks in advance

Chuck-You are asking a question? As you know, silicone is tough stuff. HD has a caulk remover, basically sharp plastic. How about a plastic putty knife that you can thin out on a bench grinder? I don't know of any solvent that will work. A very carefully used single edge razor will work but you need to keep a steady arm. Good luck, Brian

    Thanks Brian

Been using a razor and a dull putty knife. Then taking residue off with an orbital sander with a scotch pad on it.

The person who install this door didn't know what they were doing. Had leaks and tried sealing on outside of railing. Still leaked, more silicone. Quite a mess.

Just getting lazy in my old age.

Your have a great new years. Good health and prosperity.

    Hi all,

There are several silicone removers out there. It's a gel consistency bottle cap has a brush. Work pretty good, still takes time. Here's one by Dap. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=silicone+remover&hl=en&client=safari&rls =en&prmd=ivns&resnum=1&biw=1757&bih=874&um=1&ie=UT F-8&cid=12813313718434682998&sa=X&ei=RP4hTdz0DoSynAf Yp_2MDg&ved=0CGYQ8gIwAA#

Sorry, that link didn't work right. Just Google "silicone remover", Dap is one brand.

    Hi Brian & JazMan

Just an update. WD40 and a coarse rag. Works fine with some elbow grease.

    Thanks guys
