2004 Pontiac Sunfire making weird noise at startup!
Since it's gotten cold my work car makes a high pitched screetch when I start it but then it's all good!

. Ensure the belts are properly adjusted. They may be straining the power steering/alternator bearings too much. If the serpentine belt has over 80,000 miles on it, get it replaced.

. Power steering pump. Try partially changing the power steering fluid. I use a pump from a bottle of Curel hand lotion. Do it again a few weeks later. I recommend full synthetic power steering fluid, especially for cold winter mornings:

    AMSOIL Synthetic Power Steering Fluid

Don't overfill the reservoir--note the fill marks on the dipstick. If the problem persists, the pump may need replacing.

You want to also use full synthetic engine oil:

Outdoor unit is making a knocking noise prior to startup? [ 3 Answers ]

I'm getting cold air just fine -- but sometimes it makes a sound like somebody's knocking on the side of the house for about 15-20 seconds prior to startup:confused: I initially thought it was the fan hitting something... but the fan isn't even running when the noise is occurring?
