You dilute the quantity you want to use with distilled water. There is a formula to work out exactly how to get the correct percentage, but as a rough guide, equal parts of acid to water would halve the concentration. So for example if you had 80% lactic acid and used equal parts of distilled water, then you would have approximately a 40% solution. Use a clean glass or bowl to make your diluted solution.
Don't forget to peform a patch test at least 24 - 48 hours prior to the application to see how your skin reacts to the acid. Try on a small area like under your chin, if you want to use the acid on your face OR on your inner wrist or inner elbow, if you are planning on a body application. Follow the instructions carefully and time yourself. First applications should mean the acid is only on your skin for a couple of minutes OR shorter than this, if you experience intense stinging. Make sure to have your neutralising solution on hand to remove and stop the acid from working. You can build up the time you leave the acid on as your skin gets used to it. You should wait at least a week before doing further peels. And no acidic products or RA products to be used at least 3 days before and after the peels. Best of luck with it.
