Throbbing sound in front end of honda accord
I have a Honda Accord that makes a loud throbbing/rumbling sound after driving at highways speed for 15-25 minutes. I have to pull over, and there is a pulsation in the front end when I brake. I just wait on the side of the road for a minute or so, and then drive off, and it either goes away, or there is a rubbing sound up front. I've had them check the brakes, but it was suggested a caliper could still be hanging up, overheating after a long drive, and cools when I pull over. It is very intermittent, and I can't just make it happen to show technician. It does NOT happen all the time. Thanks, Ed

A friend of mine had this problem with his 2003 Cadillac three weeks ago. Due to not changing the brake fluid every two years, the piston is not retracting properly in the caliper--think corrosion. Consequently, the pads are staying against the disc, getting hot, wearing unevenly, and creating pulsation due to lateral runout (LRO).

The solution is to replace the front calipers, pads, and brake fluid. Rebuilt calipers cost $40 each and a set of ceramic pads runs around $40. Afterwards, be sure to completely change the brake fluid.
