Has anyone ever heard of meniere's disease? While visiting my family this Christmas, I was telling my father about symptoms that I have had for the past two years. Ever since I got pregnant with my first son, I have had terrible problems with motion sickness. I get very nausous I get headaches, faintness and my ears pop a lot. All of these can be brought on by riding in the car, or driving, watching the motion for fish and water in an aquarium, tv/computer use, walking in a crowd, reading, supermarket aisles, stairs, etc. It is not only when I am pregnant, because I had it between my son and this pregnancy as well. Tho not as badly. My dad told me that I should ask my doctor about menieres disease. I am going to the doctor for my monthly exam today, so I will ask him then. I am just wondering if anyone else knows about this, or has experience with it. Any imput is appreciated. Thanks guys

There is no relation to pregnancy and Meniere's disease. However, the vertigo of Meniere's disease is cause by a lesion on the posterolateral aspects of the temporal lobe near the sylvain fissure.

As a differential diagnosis, true vertigo from the swaying dizziness of the hyperventilating, anxious patient and from the other type of pseudovertigo usually afford a basis for the separation. Therefore, the association of vertigo with auditory signs and symptoms slways signifies a disease process of end organ of eight nerve.

There are some people extremely susceptible to motion sickness. Such persons should sit over the wings of the aircraft, where moting is least.

When pregnant, consideration should be given to complications for the nonpregnant patient e.g. preclanpisa or cardiopulmonary or hematologic disease. Metabolic disease causing motion sickness can also complicate the control of Diabetes.

For the most paret, motion sickness occurs when the body is subjected to accelerations of movement in different directions or under conditions where visual contact with the actual outside horizon is lost. When motion sickness is not related to symptoms of pregnancy, it may be because some individuals seem to be naturally prone to motion sickness since childhood.

Thank you for your input. Not sure I really understood most of that, but thank you. I got a small amount of motion sickness when I was a kid, but nothing out of the usual, and I was still able to read in car, and ride amusement park rides, without problem. It didn't become a problem until after pregnancy.

Meniere's disease is a chronic (lasting a long time) disease of the inner ear characterized by recurrent episodes of vertigo; progressive hearing loss, which may be bilateral (both ears) and tinnitus (ringing of the ears).
