I have worked since I was 13 years old. I've had 3 neck fusions and am supposed to have a fourth. All of my jobs have been very physical or should I say I've always been very hands on. I'm 47 years old and have always pushed myself beyond limits hence this maybe why I'm still 120lbs. I almost feel guilty even thinking about trying to get social security even though I'm in chronic pain daily and have been on pain medicine for years. Everyone I've talked to has told me you always get refused the first time. So I'm asking given my condition what is your personal opionion on what I should do?

Some people are refused the first time. That's how SSD operates initially. After you are refused or denied you need to apply again and retain an attorney who specializes in SSD to assist you. The sooner you apply the sooner you get into the system to start the approval process. If you have enough work credits you will be able to collect if you are approved. Some people have to apply 3 and 4 times before they are approved but they get all the monthly benefits retroactively so don't be disheartened in the meantime until you are approved.
