    Lateral Thinking Puzzle (Restaurant)
I brought this idea up on a different thread and a few said they were game, but anyone who cares to participate can. (Since this is games, is it OK to post it here, or should this move to the lounge or something?)

The idea is that a scenario is given with very little detail, just a little nibble of some very vague clues. :D Then you ask yes or no questions. Here are the basic, er, guidelines for lack of a better term:

The answer will be yes, no, or irrelevant. Much of the time the answer is irrelevant.

The easiest way to answer is by taking the question very literally, so keep that in mind and don't dismiss things too quickly. Even so, sometimes it can be difficult to answer as above. So I occasionally cheat.

Don't give up too easily. They can be difficult. People get totally stuck, so the more people, the more likely it gets solved. But in groups, they generally do get solved eventually.

Sorry, I don't always have time to come on 100 times a day, but I'll try to check in periodically so the questions can get answered and you can ask more.

And lastly, if you've heard it before, don't have a hissy if it's a little different. These are never exact. (And they change as they're handed down.)

    Ready, set, go!

A man walks into a restaurant and sits down. The waiter comes and the man orders a bowl of albatross soup. The waiter brings the soup and the man takes a spoonful. He then pulls out a gun and shoots himself. Why?

He remembers he's allergic to albatross soup and will die a painful slow death so decides to shoot himself instead.

He realises the albatross is not kosher and in an effort to save his soul he shoots himself.

No. Your answers can work, but aren't right. The idea is ask questions about the situation to "guide you" to the correct one.

I like going straight for gold!

    OK.

It's not that you're not allowed. I've just done a few of these and find most people don't just guess them flat out that way.

    OK.

    is he on holidays?
    Irrelevant.

or a desert island with one restaurant?
    Irrelevant.

That's two people now. I wonder how many have seen it.

I've done very few, and I'm actually terrible at them. Which is why I'm probably better off being on this side of it. LOL. But I'll certainly participate on the question side if someone else wants to do one after this.

I'll be going offline here soon, and won't have access to a computer for most of the next 10 hours. But there better be lots of questions when I get back!

Yes. (I'm assuming you mean as opposed to accidentally.)

(Nice to have you aboard. I just discovered this is one of the really classic classics and got paranoid everyone knew it.)

Hm... so this also means he wasn't forced, nor he didn't lose any bet from someone else.

Did someone whom he knew died recently?

Someone died, yes. As for "recently" - I would say not really relevant.

I hope you understood this as 'someone else than the man'.

Did the man made a promise of some sort to this now dead person whatsoever before having the soup?
