    Off the top of my head, I would suggest:

    Integration & the civil rights movement
    Women in the work force, and 2-income families
    The sexual revolution
    Rock and roll
    Pervasiveness of TV into the culture
    Rise of the suburbs (made possible by automobiles)

    I'm sure there are many more..
