    A glass full of water with a piece of ice floating in it is left in a warm room . Briefly explain why the water does not overflow as the ice melts.

    What do you know about the relationship between ice and water, and how they change from one form to another?

    For the second one, I think you have to use the Archimedes principle. The wood will displace a volume of water having the same mass as the immersed part.
