Our Progress Using Monobenzone in the UK - Dealing With Vitiligo
    Hello all,

I am not new to this forum as I’ve been reading post here for a while. I have been especially reading about peoples experience using monobenzone and the negative and positive effects it has had on them. I believe that the internet should contain a good spectrum of personal experiences and so I am going to post a few information about myself and how I have come to contact with the depigmenting agent; monobenzone.

I have had vitiligo all my life. Although, it wasn’t as extensive – it was noticeable. When I reached 20 years of age, I decided to depigment. At this stage, I was exhausted having tried various medicines and treatments and I saw that the only hope for a better appearance was to depigment my whole body.

I started using monobenzone, around February 2008 and have not turned back since. It has been a tough part of my life to cross, but now that I am almost at the end of the journey, I know I made the right decision. And this is what using monobenzone is all about – it is about solving something out of your control, it’s about embarking on a journey and to encounter difficulties and stress, but to also complete the journey and come out on the other side stronger than you have ever been.

I was a black person before and I still see myself as a back person, despite the reality that that I am really very pale. I am now probably 80% depigmented and I am on 40% Monobenzone.

I am here to help people. I am here to listen.
Let me know how you are doing with monobenzone.

    Cheers

Hi there I have had vitiligo since I was 8 years I am know 33 years. I am female and of mixed race, so it is very noticeable on me. It is not extensive but still very noticeable. I have tried for 15 years every treatment to help bring my color back but nothing works I even tried permanent makeup tattooing . My hands and feet are 90 percent white and I have small spots all over my body including my face and mouth. I look like black face I decided a few years ago that I wanted to depigment everything so I research monobenzone and finally in April of this year 2010 I got a dermetologist to prescribe the cream to me, I have been using it for two months now on my feet, it looks like the brown that was left is getting lighter I intend on using it all over my body soon. I have had NO side effects burning itching nothing. I hope to god this works if it does it would change my life significantly for the better. I plan on making before and after pics to show my progress. I know this will take a long time but time is all I have to make a change.

    Thanks for listening

    Hello Tresia,
Thanks for posting your journey on here. The real dermatological use for monobenzone is when a patient is diagnosed with vitiligo, like the two of us. Thus, I think this is an appropriate topic to talk about when considering monobenzone. Don’t mind frediecop, lol!
If you are prepared to change your life, then do go for it. It has been a long journey and sometimes people will say things that you will like and things that will hurt you. Some will have compassion; some will blame you and say “you brought it on yourself”. Don’t listen to them. They don’t know what it is like to deal with Vitiligo Listen to your heart.

    What strength are you on?

I was prescribed to 20% monobenzone or as it is called here in the UK Monobenzyl. At first, nothing happened, but after only two weeks of continuous application, I developed a rash and my skin became really dry. My doctor said that I should reduce my application to thrice a week as opposed to applying it everyday. I didn’t listen and went ahead to continue applying it everyday. My skin did dry, but eventually got used to the medicine and later after applying Vaseline, regained its moisture. If you get a rash then it is a good sign that it is working.
I want to post my pictures, but I need to answer more post so askmehlepdesk.com will allow me to post them – so please keep posting.

    Thanks
    Rudie

Hi Rudie, Thank you for your kind words. I am presently using 20 percent monobenzone. Perhaps its not working, I have been using it two times a day everyday since the beginning of April this year. I feel nothing, maybe some tingling at times but that's it. I started using it on the bottom half of my body now, feet and legs. My derma did tell me I would not see any results for at least four months. I need to start taking pictures cause I can't really tell. Sometimes to me it looks like my feet are getting lighter but I'm not sure. I hear some people start to peel and some people just get lighter, how did it work for you.

    Cheers,

    Tresia

Hi Rudie, nice pics, what a transformation, your certainly give me hope. Evidently, we are not wanted on this site. Fortunately for us I don t believe it says anything on this site about vitiligo people not allowed. So ill keep posting about the subject of matter, if you do. There will be some pissed of haters, but I really don't care, too bad! Ignorance from people comes in many forms which is something that I have gotten use to, and has toughen me up.
I finally found someone (you) who is or was going through the same things I am and I still have questions. Most Vitligo sites are usually people trying to restore their original color, and I wish them all the best, but I am like you and I'm using monbenzone to become one color again.

    Cheers!

Years you said separate from when you took the first pic to the second?
    Wow!
You wear the same shirt in these pics.. and your bed got the same unmade look.
And the same sheets.. you really need to be more sterile with yourself, don't want to know what's going on with your underwears.
Or maybe you took these pics in the same day?

Wouldn't it be a lot easier if the Mod simply deleted any posts talking about monobenzone?
    (with the exception on Sara)
I might things better for everyone.
