first response pregnancy tests false negatives?
okay so I've been trying to conceive for about a year and a half now. I am now seeing a fertility specialist. He has ran bloodwork a couple of times and all is normal. I got a vaginal ultrasound and that was normal as well. Next scheduled is one of those x-rays where they inject the dye. That has to come after my next period... which hasn't come yet. My cycles go anywhere from 30 to 38 days which is not normal. Once I didn't have one for two months and wasn't ovulating and had to take meds. I've had one every month now for about a year.

so today would be cycle day 32... meaning I could be due for period, but maybe not!! Anyway I am having some symptoms... abnormally large amount of discharge, bloating, slight lower abdominal cramping, fatigued. I always have sore breasts with period and they're not sore now. On day 30 I took a test. It was the brand answer and it was the lab strips that you dip in a cup. You're supposed to wait 5 minutes but I guess I'm impatient and only waited about one. About an hour later I walked back to the bathroom to realize it was positive. But... could possibly be an evaporation line also I guess (even though the line was pink.. )

so this morning I took another one, same brand. After 30 min there was a VERY faint second line, but visible. Maybe evaporation line after 30 min?? I don't know!? So on the way home from work I bought a first response test. Probably been about 3 or 4 hours since I urinated last. Took it and definitely negative. I'm so confused.

so is it possible that these cheaper lab strips are more sensitive than the famous first response? If I am pregnant than these answer tests are sensitive. If not I'm never buying that brand again.

You really need to read the results in the time indicated on the brand of test. Some are more sensitive than others and leaving them to read later can sometimes result in an evaporation line. The cheaper tests can sometimes be more sensitive, depends on the amount of hcg they are designed to register.
Give it another week and see what happens with your period... if still a no show, try another test using first morning urine for good measure.

OK, so I took another first response this morning... negative. Oh well. Guess it was evap lines. I know I shouldn't read test after time limit, but I just couldn't help it I guess. I'll try again in a few days if I haven't started period yet. But that's good to know that some cheaper brands are more sensitive than the expensive ones.
