Does your teacher have to approve your topic and thesis?
Your thesis statement needs to be fleshed out a bit more and put into your own words.
Do you know what the lack of individuality was and how it was expressed in the novel?
Can you list the "harsh social conformities"?
Do you know how to make an outline?

Yeah she told me to go to her, but it keeps slippin my mind a because I got a lot going on this month.
Yes the lack of individuality comes with the puritan society. But I'm glad you questioned that because I really didn't know if I could get anything off that, I still don't believe I can.
And no lol I really don't even know what "harsh social conformities" are? Lol
I just tried to add a little extra,
Yes I made an outline. And I actually wrote a little bit of a paper but I have no thesis so its like I'm just writing in circles.
What do you mean by "put it in my own words"?

Um, do that, like, yesterday.

Of course you can, but you have to know what you are talking about and what you need to research.

So how on earth did that get into your thesis statement if you don't even know what it is?
How could you? You really have no thesis statement!
Do you know what an outline is?
what do you mean by "put it in my own words"?
Well, it's obviously not in your own words. Where did you get it from?

Yeah I'm going to go to her and my old english teacher.
I mean I really want to just talk about everything but I can't bring it all into one thesis. So I'm stuck on writing about Hesters punishment and how characters don't have to conform to society.
Yeah I don't know. I put some big words together. Lol
I wrote about what point I want to make. My trouble is getting my point into a thesis statement
.
My first thesis was "Hawthorne shows how critical and strict the Puritan age was through elements of dark Romanticism."
But I changed it several times afterwards because it doesn't bring my paper together.
And it is my own words. Its just gibberish

Just between you and me, what do you REALLY want to write your paper about? What subject can you live with for ten pages?

What was Arthur's sin?
What was Roger's sin?
What was Pearl's sin?

Are you interested in writing about sin? We can connect it, for instance, to the Puritan ethic of individualism and develop a thesis statement along the way.
We can start putting together an outline, so you can then easily write the paper.
Or do you want to write about something else?

First order: Take a clean piece of printer paper or notebook paper and fold it into quarters, or draw a line from side to side and another one from top to bottom in order to divide the paper into fourths.
Tell me when you're finished.

Put each person's name at the top of each square. (This is called organizing yourself. Don't laugh. I always got A's.) Inside each square write down all the sins you can think of for each person (and yes, there is more than one for each).
