    It takes just as long, if not slightly longer, to send texts via the net.

    Actually it is an answer, just not the one you where expecting.

    Think about it.
    If you are sending texts from computer there's a load of setup to do first, like moving your contacts over and the like.
    Then you need to have the correct site, log in, add credit if needed, etc.

    Do you see my point now ?
