    There are four basic functions of marketing, known as the "4 Ps" - Pricing, Promotion, Product (or service) and Place (distribution).

    The whole point of marketing is to create exchanges that satisfy the objectives of an individual or organization. Ideally, you would find the perfect balance of the 4 Ps to do this.

    Selling and advertising are ways to achieve those goals. These terms are often used synonymously with "marketing," but are in fact only elements of Promotion - ways to communicate the Product to the customer.
