You can't control anybody's behavior but your own. However, you can limit the amount of time you spend around people--even family--whose addictions bother you or threaten your own health (which they do). Alanon and Alateen (in the Blue Pages of your phone book in the US) have support meetings that can help re drinking. Both of my parents died from smoking-related illnesses, so I can relate t that as well. Also, I've been sober 11 years. Hope this advice helps. (Remember, I'm not a doctor or therapist--just a human.)

Our Basset Hound puppy won't stop drinking water when he has it available to him. It doesn't matter how much he's had, he just keeps drinking until it's gone, and his belly swells up like a watermelon until he pees it all out. How do we get him to stop? Thanks for the help. -B
