    $6500 Homebuyers credit
    Hi,

Is this credit available if I lived in my home for 5 years and sold it on Sep 2nd 2009 and bought a new house on Sept 30th 2009?

Should the house have been bought after Nov 6th 2009 to get the credit?

    Please do let me know.

    Thanks.

Negative. The law was not passed by Congress until 6 November 2009, and they did NOT make it retroactive.

Long-time homeowners who buy a replacement principal residence may also claim a homebuyer credit of up to $6,500 (up to $3,250 for a married individual filing separately). They must have lived in the same principal residence for any five-consecutive year period during the eight-year period that ended on the date the replacement home is purchased. Replacement home must be purchased in the period from November 6, 2009 to April 10, 2010. Your U.S. Tax Return: First-Time Homebuyer Credit
