I purchased a house with an unfinished half bath. The shower base was not installed. There is a cast iron pipe coming up through the slab.there is a drain leaded into the pipe with a flange and a liner that is cut off,and a threaded 2" drain screwed into it,it has been there a long time and I cannot move it..
Do I need a liner on a slab.
Can I pour a concrete base up to the existing drain and use it as a floor drain.
Or do I have to replace the existing drain with a good flange and new threaded floor drain. I will probably break the fitting if I try to remove the one there now. Looking for an easy out. stanscrib

Set your mind at ease Stan, You don't need a liner and yes. You can pour a cement base and slope to the drain. You have a drain, a strainer and a trap. All the stuff you'll need for a floor drain. The only problem that I can see is elevation. After you pour a base and slope to the drain you will have a floor drain higher then the floor. Hope this helps. Good luck, Tom

No problem then the drain is about 2 inches above the slab.thanks for the advice tom, haven't did any plumbing since 1952 and have forgotten most of what we did espically with all the new stuff coming out. Stan
