    Pit Bull with runny eye
    Hi there,

I have a 13-month-old Pit Bull. She has an issue with her right eye. It's runny, a bit red, and she gets "eye boogers" every few hours. I'm just wondering if someone can tell me what they did in similar situations. I don't want to have to take her to the vet (but will if need be). I just hate the attitude I get when I bring her in, they act like I've got a murderer on a leash.

    Thank you in advance.

What color is the discharge coming from her eye?

If it's yellow or green then odds are she has an infection, you will need to go to the vet to treat that.

But if the discharge is clear or grey looking then it's likely ust irritation, often caused by allergies.

See if you can match up how long it has been happening with the use of any new cleaning products, extra time spent outside, new toys or food etc to see if anything adds up.

It's light yellow. She has been playing with her dad and brother a lot lately. But neither of them have anything wrong with their eyes.

It could be an infection, obviously I can't say without seeing her :)

Try bathing her eyes with just clean water regularly (every few hours) and see if you see an improvement.

One of my poodles gets pretty bad eye boogers but his are usually a greyish color so it's just from irritation (as told by my vet)

All right. Thanks for the info. I will do that and if no improvement by tonight I'll take her to the 24-hr vet.

I wouldn't worry about the 24 hour vet.
If the discharge isn't too bad then if it is an infection it's only mild.

You can book an appointment for tomorrow or the next day and just keep bathing her eye.

Eye care is very important as you would know but I don't see it as a huge emergency in this case :)

She's gorgeous. Friends of ours have a pitbull mix that looks just like her.

    I love her coloring.
