Is it ultra-tacky to send out "Save The Date" 's before we're even engaged?

Not only is it 'tacky,' it will just confuse people.

Imagine getting this in the mail, "Please keep the afternoon of (random date), open. If/when he proposes to me, I want to have our wedding on this day."

Don't forget to send one of these "save the date" cards to the future groom! I'm sure he'd like to know...

    Beyond ultra, it's Uber-tacky.

Are you registered at Macy's already, too? BassMaster's?

Yeah... Uber tacky. What are they saving the date for if there's no plan to marry? Engaged means you intend to get married. If you have set a date for the wedding, it would appear you are engaged. This is weird.

Why would you send out announcements, invitations, or save-the-dates for a wedding in which the man hasn't even proposed?

    Tacky. Yes.

It's not tacky... it's utter nonsense if you ask me. Is this to goad him into asking you or what? Makes no sense whatsoever to put the cart before the horse.

How about a pre-baby shower? How about pre-graduation gifts for that child?

How foolish will you feel if he's not ready, or even planning on staying a bachelor?

Just keep your hope chest dusted off, but don't assume anything.

Is the groom even chosen yet? Is it for a blind date wedding?

I thought there couldn't be anything tackier than putting registration information and requests for cash into a wedding invitation.

    Apparently, I was wrong.

I went to a bridal shower and there were computer generator, generic thank you notes on each plate.

This MIGHT be tackier than that.
