Becoming a paramedic in the military/Enlisting at 29
    Hi there!

Ok, kind of a big question, but anything would be super helpful!

I'm a 29 year old female. I am formerly a child welfare social worker. Currently I work as a barista; social work turned out to not be my calling. Now I am trying to gather some information in order to make a decision about what comes next for me. One thing I am considering is joining the military. I really don't know much about it at all. As a nearly 30 year old woman, it seems like an odd choice, but I keep thinking of ways it could be hugely rewarding. I am also interested in becoming a paramedic, and I think that the two go hand in hand.

Any thoughts? Anything to consider when considering which branch of the military? What is involved in becoming a paramedic in the armed forces? Anything else I should consider?

The best way to do it would be to go Guard. From bonuses to college money to learning a new skill, you have several great options that you could use to make a decisive, informed decision about your future. Sounds like you should do 2 things, go the go-army website & spend a few days a little at a time researching possible MOS choices that may interest you, & 2nd, talk to a recruiter about the MOS choices that you narrowed it down to. Anything you need to know just ask, I enlisted at 28 & am 30 now.

A woman was 36 and in boot camp with me. If she can do it, so can you.

The Navy has a great medical field. If you talk to a Navy recruiter, let them know you want to be in the medical field (HM is the rate) and ensure that you test high enough for the rate.

Hi, I'm also interested in becoming a Paramedic. I'm leaning towards the army. The Navy pretty much told me to go F*** myself. Military branches are cutting back and I guess they don't want a 27 year old recruit. I haven't really looked into the Air Force or Coast Guard when it comes to Paramedic. I wanted to be Search and Rescue for the Navy and Paramedic was my fall back job. I've heard about Marine Medics, Air Force and Coast Guard. I Honestly just want to know which one makes the most money.

I can shed a little light on this... I live in NJ and I've called EVERYWHERE I could possibly find and NO ONE helped me. I got the run around Every time. It depends on where you live. The schools I found where in California, Connecticut etc.

I was going to make the move to LA but I can't afford the move and the tuition (which is quite reasonable being about 2 grand... if you didn't already go to college you can get a loan... I cannot LOL thanks Sallie Mae)

Where I'm at now, the military is the only way to go.
