    Credit Card Debt
Dear Desk Help; 5 years ago a credit card company (Canadian) sent my balance that I owed $6000.00 to a collection agency because I missed 3 payments on my monthly bill. It is now in Collections and different collection agencies call me telling me to pay up. I have not paid anything to them or anything on the bill, and could never pay them back; as I lost my job and had no way of paying them. Today collectors still call and demand the amount to be paid. My question is how long can I go on like this before the statue of limintation kicks in here in Canada? I live in British columbia, Canada. Do we have a Statue of limitation where they just won't bother to collect from me and write it off?or can this go on forever?
What can I do? Or what should I do?
    Thanks
    Wait to hear from you.

The Statute of Limitations, which I think is 4 years for Canada) limits the creditor in what they can do within the legal system to collect this debt. However, the debt NEVER goes away and they can continue to dun you forever. The US has a law that prohibits them from contacting you via phone if you inform them not to. I believe Canada has a similar law.

I am surprised that they have not obtained a judgement against you. They may have done so, but you have no assets for them to use it against.

Thanks Scott for your reply. It makes sense in what you are saying, and very helpful. I don't have any assets and that's probibly why they can't get anything out of me. Thanks again. Les
