Correct Trowel for Rialto 6" Wall Tile and for Rialto 12" Floor Tile?
I have a hardibacker tub surround that I plan to tile in 6X6 Rialto 3/8" porcelain tile and a hardibacker floor in 12x12 Rialto 3/8" porcelain tile.

I believe I am supposed to use modified thinset in both instances, and Laticrete Spectraset has been recommended. Please confirm?

For the floor I believe I should use a 1/4x3/8x1/4 trowel. Please confirm?

For the walls I have seen every dimension trowel recommended. Please advise?

I have helped lay tile before a couple times many years ago and I need to learn up a little. Please recommend any tiling 101 sites or books you feel are a good place to start.

    Thanks!

    I've done a fair amount of tiling and I'd recommend a 1/4' x 3/16" V notched trowel for 6" tile and a 1/4" x 3/8" square notched trowel for tiles larger than 8"

I keep reading that I should use a "waterproof membrane" for my bathroom floor (which has a tub/shower). But they never mention what could constitute a "waterproof membrane". What can I use for this? Is it the same as a "decoupling" material like Ditra? I just know that if I walk into Home...
