Carburator Choke

Hi there. My car carburator choke (electricaly controlled I think) suddenly did not function and at closed position, so what we did is temporarily disengaged wiring and set the choke to open. 1.What would be the effect of this? 2. Would fuel consumption increase with this set-up Thanks
