    Older dog won't eat much
We got my deceased father-in-law's dog (Walter - outdoor dog, probably around 15 yrs. Old, mixed breed, mid size, might be mixed with Lab), about 1 1/2 yrs. Ago. He's been fine up to the last week. He stopped eating his dry and canned dog food about a week now. My father-in-law used to make him 'spaghetti noodles and sauce', which he loved and we would give it to him in between. He'd also drink the little leftover milk from our cereal once or twice a week. We've tried to give him the spaghetti and leftover milk and even a piece of bread and he won't touch any of it. The only thing he has eaten the past week is a little bit of his 'bacon wavy treats' and a piece of lunchmeat. He does drink some water. How long can he live just eating a tiny bit?

The other signs in the beginning of the week when he stopped eating was he would sort of fall over, wouldn't bark and had trouble going into his dog house. He's been better with those things the past few days, but not 100%. Is it possible he had a stroke (not sure dog's can have strokes)? He doesn't whine, whimper, cry or make any noises. Just when he drinks water his stomach grumbles a little. His one eye seems to get some white discharge in the corner of it, haven't noticed before.

Since he is so old we don't want to put him through the drama of taking him to the vet. Is there anything you can suggest or what might be wrong with him?

Any information you can provide would greatly be appreciated.

    Thank you

Old age has caught up with the poor old soul, QueenSherry. He has lived a long time, l5 years for a mid sized dog. All you can do is make him comfortable, warm, and love him. Put food down as usual, keep water down, help him up when he can't manage. Time will tell.

15 years is old for a medium sized dog is Tick said, but 15 years is very old for a mid sized outdoor dog.

Does yojur vet make house calls?
Have you tried finding a vet that makes house calls.

It might just be his time, he has lived a long life but a check from a vet certaainly wouldn't hurt... they might be able to make him more comfortable.
