Boss making employees pay workers compensation insurance premiums
Hello, thank you in advance for taking the time to read my thread.

I am a contractor. I do contract labor for a company that recently got all of us,( the employees), together and told us that we will either have to start taking a deduction from our checks to cover the cost of the workers compensation insurance premiums that the company has been paying for us or that we would have to get our own or that we would not be given work anymore.

I have tried vigorously to find the laws on this. The only things that I have found, are about an employee collecting benefits for accidents on the job and such.

    My question: Is this legal?

    Hello brock:

You say you're a contractor. As such, you are self employed and your employer ISN'T required to cover you for Workman's Comp, whether you pay or he pays...

If you're speaking imperfectly and you ARE an employee, your boss IS required to cover you, but the law doesn't say anything about if he can charge the employees for it. I'll bet he can...
