Is my puppy sleeping too much?
I have a Daschund puppy that is about 8 weeks old. We have only had him two days, but he sure does sleep a lot. When he is awake he is playful, but not like other large breed puppies I have had. Should I be worried? I made an appt. with the vet in about two weeks... should I try to move it closer?

As long as he is active when awake, I wouldn't worry too much. 8 week olds are still pretty small and immature. Do take care to expose him to as wide of experiences as you can. What puppies encounter before they are 12 weeks old, they see as natural and are comfortable with them all their life. Try to give him some chance to continue his doggy socialization too. This takes great care. Even being on schedule with shots may not protect him from parvo and other things. Best thing you can do is make sure the other dogs are healthy and getting the shots they should. Even being in an area where a sick dog was months ago can expose him.

That sounds so much like my little Doxie, Peanut when she was young. She slept and slept, and I wanted to play!

I agree with labman that as long as he is playful when awake I wouldn't worry.

Peanut is now 5 years old. She still likes to sleep!

    Enjoy your little friend.
