9 months later my ex contacts me and wants money
She says she will take me to small claims court...

Its been nine months since she broke up with me...

Can she still take me to court?

This is killing me... how long has to go by before I can stop worrying about her taking me to court for money?

    Does anyone know?

I think you should post this giving the full story in the law section/small claims.

Money for what? Why does she think you owe her money? Then of course... can she prove it?

If it's a baby do the right thing. Man up and act like a father. Take care of your kid.

This is a small claims question so I had to move it.

The limitation period (i.e. deadline) varies depending on where you live. There is also a maximum amount on how much she can sue at the Small Claims Court.

Like others have said, we need more information before we can give you an accurate answer. Most states have a time frame of a few years in which someone can sue you.

The bottom line is that if she does, you need to show up. She'll argue why you owe the money; you'll argue why you don't. The judge will rule in someone's favor, although we have no way of telling you what the odds are of you winning/losing at this point.

If it is for a child, then she would have to file in the county she and the child reside in with the Family Court division, not in small claims.

It depends on how much you owe her and what the circumstances are.

Why is this "killing" you? Is it a lot of money?
