California legislator living the California life-style is not really a surprise.
If he was elected in a conservative district I expect there will be a recall movement ,or pressure to resign ;or he will be shown the door in the next primary.
Edit he resigned

yawn ; this is getting old . I can concede that there are people with "family values " who stray if you'll concede that it is much easier for people who think values are relative to live within their broad terms.

Everyone has values, some are just more flexible than others. That's why Dems reward their crooks and perverts.

Guess you haven't followed NJ politics or the people's Republic in Mass . Last I heard Barney's Frank was still a committee chair.
Steve Lipski urinating on a crowd is one of the most disgusting .
Jersey City Councilman Steven Lipski is No. 1 threat at Washington club
The recent list goes on and on. Eliot Spitzer, John Edwards, Jim McGreedy, Gary Condit... some oldies but goddies ,Mel Reynolds, proclaimed that he had "won the lottery" when an informant tricked him into thinking he was about to score with a 13 year old girl. Gary Hart in his arrogance told the press to follow him and then got caught. Even Franklin Roosevelt lived the lie . FDR is still their hero.
The difference is, when a Republican does something scandalous, he almost always loses his supporters.
Democrats live a zero-sum world.
As far as the money stuff .No biggie If they take a little for themselves (cold cash Jefferson) or engage in predatory underage homosexual stuff with congressional pages (Gerry Studds), it's no biggie . They tip toed over the bar.

Look, I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with you over who's the most hypocritical or perverted. I'll leave that up to you.

Sorry but you DID get into that pi$$ing contest.
You said: "These days the perverts are in the Republican party."
You only went to "Look, I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with you" when your statement was proven wrong.
If you truly don't want to get into such a pi$$ing contest, then I suggest not making such comments in the first place.
Personally, I have no problem with such contests... I just have to stand a bit farther back than most so as not to hurt anyone.

So you don't care to acknowledge the different standard? It's simple, this guy resigned already. A Democrat engages in corruption and he gets rewarded with a committee chairmanship. You don't see anything wrong with that scenario?

I don't even care that this guy cheated on his wife and his mistress (PLAYA PLAYA) . I care he slept with a lobbyist but that is a different story. I just wonder why is it almost always the family value people. Do you think they champion these family values so people will think oh he/she is a good person they would never cheat on their spouse? But then they get comfortable and slip up. That is what I wonder.

But it isn't always the family values guys as the replys to this illustrate. They are easier targets for mockery because they profess the standards they do . That's all.
In the end it is silly fodder . The Republican punish them more than the Dems will.

Then I read your post. You said that these days the perverts are Republicans.
When Tom challenged your statement by pointing to the number of Dems that are perverts, you said you didn't want to get into a "pi$$in' contest" with him over who is worse, Dems or Reps.
But you had already gotten into the pi$$in contest by your statement that these days the perverts are Reps. You only stepped away from the "pi$$in contest" when you saw you were wrong.
I read the entire exchange. You both entered the pi$$in contest and LOST the pi$$in contest with an ill-conceived post about only Reps being the perverts, which was easily proven false.
