    Jar Fly
DH & I live off a wooded area surrounding two sides. Summer before last, the area was deafening from the love calls of jar flies. A walk through the woods would find the little rascals sitting on logs, limbs and branches just singing away hoping for a mate. I took one back to the house, set him on a board, and took close-up pictures. They turned out pretty good and I'd like to share them with you. Note that the black pupils in his eyes followed me as I took pixes from various sides. It was fascinating.

A very interesting cicada you have there Aesops , I've never seen one with orangeish-red eyes before.
The ones we have here in Central Pa. have always been of the black-eye variety.

The closest I could come to what you show are these two

Can you elaborate on the origin of the name “Jar Fly” ? They do make quite the ruckus, when held captive.
