We got dorect beside our door a spider. We do not want to kill it, but woul dlike what kind of spider this is. Is it poisonous or harmless?

Can't really see it that good. Compare web picture of a "Brown Recluse", THEY'RE poisonous.

I looked up the Brown Recluse, and it doesn't look like it. There is a BROWN widow spider. Not only black, but brown too. I would "relocate" him if I wasn't sure. Especially if there are kids around. We do a lot of relocating here. I relocated a HUGE black snake that was under a cooler in the garage. I got some major hero points with my two sons (4&7) over that. I was fishing and got bit by a spider last month on my thigh. I had to take antibiotics ,and my leg is just now healing good. So be careful.

Kudos for not squashing it! Just move it if you're worried that it's poisonious. Send a photo if its back if you can.

When I was in the 7th grade or so, I got bit by a brown recluse on my chest in my sleep.

Needless to say, I woke up with a rotting chest. >.> Luckily I'm fine now, but I have a nice pink scar on my jellyfish skin. Be careful, for sure.

From the photo, it's difficult to distinguish identifying features, but the body shape and general coloring, as well as the webbing, seem consistent with a brown widow. They are relatively harmless unless you try to pick them up barehanded.

Getting her to move is a simple matter of sweeping down her web every day for about a week. If she can't catch dinner, she'll find another restaurant.

I will try to get a better pic from the back but I am not a big fan of spiders, but I do not want to kill it. Don't know why. But I also could never relocate it. Can I flush it with my water hose?

Yes, they are different. You couldn't get an old mop or something like that and get it on there and walk it to the edge of your property?

I say wolf spider. My dad looked at it (he knows lots of spiders) and said it looks like a wolf spider

Just sweep down the webbing a few times. It will get the hint.

I've sent the picture to my friend, he's an entomologist and specializes in spiders.

It may take a few days for him to get back to me though, so be patient. :)

Until then, I'd listen to Cats and start sweeping down the web, or put on gloves (thick ones) and move her.

The chances of it being poisonous is pretty slim, contrary to popular belief there aren't that many poisonous spiders, most of them are harmless.

I'm sorry, but spiders scare the bejeebus out of me. Probably because of my past epic battle with one, but still!

They're all... 8-legged and hairy and all those eyes... and come into your house like they're crashing a party you didn't invite them to... AND THEN! They steal your corners!

And yes, I am aware I am being a hater right now.
