    Updated poem.
    I got flowers today.

    I got flowers today.
    It wasn't my birthday,
    Or any other special day.
    Last night, we had our first fight.
    He said some cruel things,
    But I know he must be sorry,
    Because he sent me flowers today.

    I got flowers today.
    It wasn't our annaversary,
    Or any other special day.
    Last night, he hit me.
    But I know he must be sorry,
    Because he sent me flowers today.

    I got flowers today.
    It wasn't mothers day,
    Or any other special day.
    Last night, he beat me.
    But I know he must be sorry,
    Because he sent me flowers today.

    I got flowers today.
    Today, was a special day.
    The day of my funeral.
    Last night, he finally beat me to death.
    If only I had had the strength to leave him,
    I would not have gotten flowers today.

    I loved this poem when I first read it in a thread.
    If you have made adjustaments I have not noticed,its still very good.. goosebumps!

    This is a powerful poem cited as far back as 1999. It and excerpts from this poem are used in various posters found in domestic violence shelters and programs across the country. Great poem to emulate. I wish you luck in your writing
