    Shift cable on a F150
How do you tell if a shift cable needs to be replaced or lubed. Shift lever is rough to shift up and down through the gears.

The problem may be with a worn Transmission Range Sensor (TRS), which is located on top of the transmission. The shift linkage likely goes directly to the TRS, which may be worn or out of adjustment. In some situations, an alignment tool is needed to properly adjust the TRS.
