For myself, addition is when you are not 100% happy when doing something, but you still "need" to do it, or if you feel that you can't go on with life unless you do that something. I smoke a lot of weed but if I ever became unhappy while stoned and still did it, or if I didn't think I could get up in the morning and go to work unless I smoked, then I would be addicted.

A compulsion or loss of control over something can be booze drugs sex porn - whatever gives you a buzz. It grows. Starts small and inconspicuous and grows as one feeds it.

They say addiction starts with the first... drink, drug, cigarette or whatever your addiction happens to be. If you think about it that is true because if you didn't take that first one you wouldn't be in the addiction.

I think people get addicted because they think they have control over it rather than it having control over them. Then when it gets into a real addiction they are in denial still insisting they can stop any time they want, they don't have a problem, etc...

Addiction aside, denial aside, if use of the drug(s) or behavior(s) cause a problem in the life of the user, there is a problem. Some of us deny that there is a problem or an addiction. Is there a problem? If so, how do you solve it?

    Words don't matter, problems do.

    Hi there
Firstly Addiction has nothing to do with any substance.
Think about it why do people use Alcohol/drugs?
To Feel Good. For a high.
Which means that they are not feeling too good to start with.
Addiction is about you -ve Emotions.

    Hello I:

When you dilute the word "addiction" to include any bad habit, the true meaning of the word goes out the window.

No one is addicted to porn, food, sex, or any of the other things people say they're addicted to... In fact, I think the use of the word "addiction" is just an excuse NOT to break a bad habit, as in, "Dude, I tried to stop, but I'm addicted".

Addiction is true regardless of what others say, sometimes it stems from really bad trauma like experience where you look for help.. But instead of seeking professional help you seek either a chemical dependacy or sexual dependacy, or even some who self mulation( the cutting of self to in there minds relieves pain).
With me I am a sex adddict.. I have been for many years.. I even tried to cover it up with marriage, and completely ignoring the fact that I have a problem and I need to seek professional help... I started going to a therapist and she was getting me to remember things that I put away for many years.. I stopped going to here and I am mad at myself for doing it.. I felt she was getting to the root of my problem and I ran away from it.. If you have an addiction I would seek help before you hurt yourself or others..

Addiction is when you can't stop performing a behavior or habit when you want to and still perform the behavior or habit even though you don't want to continue to do it. For example, an alcoholic will drink when they do not want to and can't stop drinking even though they want to stop. Any behavior can be ad libbed to that phrase. Gambling, knuckle cracking, cursing...

The definition of insanity, which is complimentary to this explanation of addiction is... Insanity is performing the same behavior or habit and expecting a different outcome.
