    220GB SATA HD Failure
It's been about half a year now that I've had my computer which I built myself up and running. It's running on Intel Pentium 4 processor and an Asus mobo, 1GB of ram and two HD's. The two HD are 1) Western digital 120GB PATA and a 220 Western digital SATA drive. I had noticed that recently when I would start the computer up while it was starting up the processes, at time it would just shutdown completely without warning. I didn't pay attention to the problem and just figured it was a small glitch. It didn't happen all the time but lets say 3/7 time it would happen.

    Now the problem:

Recently I added a Firewire card for an Ipod I bought and installed it on the mobo and loaded the Drive disk which window found and installed by itself. There was a type of error but I can't remember correctly what it was, I was asked to restart my computer, typical of installing new hardware or software. I restarted and tried to sync my Ipod with Itunes and every time I did so my computer would crash similarly to the way it would at times on startup and id receive the "Windows did not shutdown properly, to start windows in safe mode...last good known configurations....Normally. After the 4th crash I got the same screen but was unable to get back into windows because after selecting any of the choice my computer would restart while it was on the windows loading page.
When I try to use the boot disk it also crashes when I try to enter the repair counsel or select "Enter: install Windows" It dosnt really crash but it gives me the blue screen of death saying "windows was shutdown in order to prevent damage to your computer"
on the last line it sats "ntfs.sys" below the technical information.

I've already took out the Firewire card and have narrorwed the problem down to the Sata 220 GB Drive. Whenever that drive is connected to the computer It won't boot and trying to enter the repair counsel is impossible. That drive was the master boot drive. I can still hear it spinning and reading or what not but something's wrong with it and it won't let my computer boot when its connected. Ive installed a fresh windows on a new 320 GB HD and have even plugged in the SATA drive after the OS fully loads, I click on add hardware and it detects the drive but shortly after suddenly restarts without warning.

I don't see a way It can be repaired without letting a computer boot. And by the looks of it a boot disc might have little luck too but I don't know yet.
Does anyone have any Idea what might be the problem and what I might be able to do to save the 200+GB's of data I had on the drive?

Thanks a lot for reading and sry it's a long thread but I wanted to include as much detail as possible.

There are companies that specialise in data recovery, I suggest you contact one. You should get a refund for your hard drive or swop it for a new one after you have recovered your data. Normally guarantees are up to a year or three depending on the brand.

It's the sad truth of it.
