Breaking a lease due to disability
We have been with the same rental company for about 12 years. We have lived in 3 different townhouses. In January my husbands disability made it very hard for him to do steps. He can do them once a day but to go up steps every time he has to go to the bathroom became dangerous. He almost fell down the steps several times. He actually yanked the railing partially out of the wall catching himself. In March we went to the rental company to see if they had anything with the a powder room on the first floor. We couldn't find anything we liked with them so 2 weeks later we went to another rental company and they had exactly what we needed. I sent a letter on March15 saying we would be moving by May first. That was 45 days notice. Now they want mays rent for breaking the lease. I was told they needed 60 days notice from the first of the month. So I guess we only actually gave them 30 days. Is my husbands disability enough of a reason to break the lease.

    Hello berry:

No, but your old landlord apparently isn't holding you to it, either. All they want is the month that LEGAL notice would have provided for.

I'd pay it. Make sure you get it in writing that this payment will END your relationship.
