Is it a sure thing that you can get your records
I am almost 50 years old and just found out that I was in foster care. I was raised by a nice family. The only reason I want to find out this information is that this couple were not related to me. My grandmother died at age 49 so my mom couldn't keep me so they asked if this couple could raise me. I can't find out about my grandmother or any other relatives.
I would care about this but I have a new grandchild and his has a few health concerns.
I just need to know how to contact someone about this.

Is there someone in the "nice family" who might know the background of this? Do you have your birth certificate? Do you know anything about your family of origin?--village might have an older resident who remembers your birth, etc.

There is no one who would know the back ground of this. I have a birth certificate. It has no information on it. The only thing that we know is that my grandmother died at 49 and the family went it separate ways. My family was protestant, but I was born in one city and raised in another. I believe that I was in foster care where I was born not raised. That is a two hour drive from where I am now.
    Thank you for your reply

Hmmm, so there are no names on the birth certificate, such as a midwife's or hospital's? Is your grandmothr's name searchable on the Internet? I'm a librarian and just can't believe there isn't some piece of information that can be useful for searching. Write down everything you know about your family -- first and last names, cities, countries of origin, etc. Could you afford to hire a detective to work on this? There is a book available, How To Find Anyone Anywhere : A Professional Manual For Skip Tracers and Missing Persons by Ralph Thomas, or books with similar titles. Visit your library which will interlibrary loan a copy if it doesn't own one.

Well first it may not have even been official foster care but merely friends of a family who took you in, esp 50 years ago, this was very common.

Next if there was records and it was foster care, any records would have been boxed and moved to some basement years ago, but most likely destroyed years ago.

You can start with your birth, check newspapers for the year and day of birth in the area you were born, this may show up parents names

There is just my name and the city where I was born. Then when they adopted me there was their names in all the correct spots. There are no names and I am not even sure of the hospital I was born in, there were two at the time of my birth. I will go to the library and see if I can check out the book you suggested. Do you want the information on the adopted family? That is the only info I have on my family. That is why I thought if I got the foster care records they might tell me something!
